Haywards of Cambridge: BSA Motorcycles
Founded in 1903 by the Birmingham Small Arms Company, BSA Motorcycles quickly rose to prominence as one of Britain’s most iconic motorcycle manufacturers. Known for their rugged reliability and engineering excellence, BSA bikes became a symbol of British motorcycling heritage—supplying motorcycles for military use during both World Wars and dominating international racing in the post-war era.
By the 1950s, BSA was the world’s largest motorcycle producer, with legendary models like the Gold Star and Bantam capturing the hearts of riders worldwide. The Bantam D3 also participated successfully in the gruelling International Six Day Trials (ISDT).
Production ceased in the early 1970's owing to stiff Japanese competition, but the iconic BSA marque has long remained a cherished part of British motorcycling history.
